The ‘Telling Stories’ project profiles South African’s living with specific congenital disorders by telling real people’s stories in an authentic way. Read their stories here.
This adaptation of a UK project (www.tellingstories.nhs.uk) empowers those living with congenital disorders by giving them a voice and enabling them to tell their stories in their own words. This provides a relatable point of contact for others affected by the same condition, and helps to raise awareness around congenital disorders and the genetic services needed for their diagnosis and ongoing care.
We are in the process of building up a library of stories from individuals and families across South Africa and we will be profiling them on relevant awareness days to highlight the specific congenital disorder.
